ADSL is a fixed line connection to the Internet via copper telephone lines.

There are two players – the infrastructure provider (Telkom) and the data provider (LIMITECH). Telkom exclusively lays the copper lines and you have to have a voice line to get an ADSL line. Data is provided by an ISP (Internet Service Provider). LIMITECH is an ISP.

ADSL is made up of two parts – data and line speed.

Data is measured in Gigabytes (GB). The higher the number, the more data you have.

Speed is measured in Megabits per second (Mbps). This is the speed at which your data will be carried across your connection. The higher the number, the faster the speed

What is the difference between Capped and Uncapped Business DSL?

Capped DSL has a fixed amount of bandwidth depending on the option purchased, whereas Uncapped DSL allows access to an unlimited amount of DSL at the speed of the service ordered. The capped service operates from a different “bandwidth pool”, compared to the uncapped service. As such, the capped service is less contended than the uncapped, therefore during times of peak operation/ demand, an uncapped product would perform well, but not as well as a capped product.

What is the difference between the SOHO, Dynamic and Premium Uncapped solutions?

THe SOHO Uncapped solution caters more towards a home-office or small office environment (1-5 users) whereas the Dynamic Uncapped solution caters towards a larger office environment (5-15 users). Both the SOHO and Dynamic Uncapped solutions are semi-shaped dependant on the time of day, network utilisation and the amount of data transferred using the account. The Premium Uncapped solution is 100% unshaped and comes with 5 static IP’s, it is catered towards high data utilisation.

What line speed does the Uncapped product run at?

The Uncapped product will function at the speed of your Telkom ADSL line or at the speed of the solution that was purchased. Whichever is the lowest number.purchased, whereas Uncapped DSL allows access to an unlimited amount of DSL at the speed of the service ordered. What do I do when I reach my capped broadband limit?

When you reach your capped limit the service becomes highly throttled, you will be able to purchase a top-up product to enable continued Internet access.
